impeller installed but still no water

Hello all.
I just installed an impeller in the water pump of a 1988 100 hp Merc outboard. As an aside, I found out that the motor has a newer lower unit (not sure how new) since the first impeller I purchased was for an '88 and did not fit. Boat repair/parts shop said the impeller I was replacing was a newer model.
Anyway, replaced the impreller and still not getting water from the pee hole. Water is being sucked into the intakes since there is not water squirting from the muffs when I start the engine. Also, a bit of water spraying from the exhaust ports on the LU just above the cavitation plate and some water spraying/spitting out of the center of the prop. There is a tiny hole in the bottom of a plate on the starboard side of the lower unit above the cavitation plate. Water running out of that also.
I used some forced air on the pee hole just in case something was stopping it up.
Still no water from the pee hole.
Any suggestions? Thanks for any responses. I'll be back on line later.

My 1988 60 hp Merc does the same thing when I have the muffs hooked up in the driveway. I put it in the lake and it pees like crazy. Could be that I never went above idle when the boat was out of the water?? Used it all last summer and no overheating so I figured it was nothing to worry about.
One thing I dont like about mine is when I restart the motor when it's warm it takes around 8 to 10 seconds to start pissing again unless I rev it up then it pisses after a second or 2.

You probably have low water pressure and not getting enough the water to the pump. You should have water squiring around the muffs, it takes 35-50 #s to work w/muffs. Put it in the water and see if that helps.

Not going to get a good stream of water through the tell tale until the T-stats open up. To verify, you could pull the stats out(leave the seals in) and try running with the muffs again. If you have a good stream of water, then you have confired this.

You can test the T-stats while they are out. Put them in boiling water to open. Place a piece of fishing line (2 or 4 lb test) into the T-stats and allow the stats to close on the fishing line.

In a see through container, put in some cool water with the T-stats and a thermometer. Add boiling water and you can verify the temp that the stats open.

Not sure what op temp of your engine should be. If stats do not open, replace them.

If you have water coming out of the prop, and it's not overheating, yer probably good to go. Water doesn't come out the tell-tale until the thermostats open. Basically, all they are good for is to verify that the engine is up to operating temp before you hammer it out of the hole to go fishin, and thus avoid a cold seize.

hope it helps
