Impeller issues

Hello, I have a 2007 Mariah with a merc. 3.0 over the weekend I replaced the impeller, and now the engine overheats on the muffs. What could I have done wrong????

was the old impellor in pieces? what can happen is a small bit of the old disintegrating impellor can get lodged in the cooling system

did you replace the housing and all seals too?

was it a sierra replacement impellor? there was a post yesterday about sierra part not totally matching up and 'filling' the housing diameter

No the old impeller was in good shape I just wanted to keep up the Maint. schedule - any ideas, what about not having the impeller seated in the key correct????????????/

are you sure you put the little key back on the shaft that locks the impeller to the shaft and makes it spin?

or the water tube missed. did you do on or off boat.

following on from that - did you use a new key?

if the old one has sheared your impellor may as well be a chocolate fireguard

ie useless

I did the impeller change off the drive, and what the hell is a chocolate fireguard??????????

sounds like you either missed the water tube or the connector between the pump housing and water tube fell out of place.

take it off lay it off the bench and try again start the water tube here is my post on it.

I had a similar issue on a 2000 5.0 Volvo Gi. Still not sure what happened but it appeared to be some sort of air lock in the system. The marina had just replaced the impellor and tstat(so they say), and she overheated on the way out of the 6mph zone. Second new impellor and tstat and no water was coming through the top end. Rev'd it to about 2500 and all of a sudden we had water. She's been fine ever since. Went looking for blockages and didn't find any. Who knows, its a boat.
