Is this all there is supposed to be of the impeller key ? There was no key to be found when I dis-assembled the impeller housing. How can a small pin like this turn the impeller? Impeller has a wide key notch in it. Where did my old key go?? THis is still a mystery to me. I'm guessing that a new impeller kit has a key with it that is slotted and slides over this pin but , again, I'm guessing. Pease enlighten me. Thanks for replies.

For many years, all that existed with the lower hp engines was a pin in a hole that drove the impeller.

EDIT:Few moments later.... I just checked the 1976 25hp parts book. That driveshaft with the pin within a hole in the driveshaft is the correct driveshaft and water pump drive for that engine. If you have an impeller that requires any other type key, you have the wrong impeller.

there is a larger D shaped key that should be in there....may have fell off somewhere when you pulled the impeller off, a new one should come with the water pump kit, a little tip i read somewhere when replacing the impeller...put alittle grease on the key to stick it in place when you slide the new one over it and wrap a zip tie around the impeller to get the fins going in the right direction, get the housing started over it then cut the zip tie off, saved me a few headaches thought id pass it on

Then this outboard has had the wrong impeller in it . You can see in the pic that the old impeller has a wide notch, way to big for that small pin. I bought this motor 25 years ago and it has been sitting in my garage ever since. It started right up (2 pulls, with a dab of gas in #1 cylinder) after 25 years. Where, on I-Boats can I order new impeller kit for this old outboard?

OK: UPDATE i PUT THE OLD IMPELLER BACK ON JUST TO CHECK AND i SEE THAT THE PIN IS AN EXACT FIT TO THE NOTCH IN THE IMPELLER. There is no key involved in this impeller. It was an optical illusion that the impeller notch was too big. Thanks to all for the help.

look at the top portion of the page and click on Evinrude..parts..cooling....you'll find it with the exception of the housing, unless I over looked it,...ebay, dealer, or marineengine.com for it if you replace it...brace yourself as it can be pricey

Keep in mind it was in OMC's best interest to make as many interchangeable parts as possible. That impeller may also fit an outboard with a traditional key.

FYI here is the water pump kit sans housing (no listing for a pump kit with housing);

Take a good look at your impeller housing. If it is in rough shape (gouged up) it should be replaced. OMC/BRP part number for the housing is 0313543
