Hey guys,
yesterday, I went to my local marine mechanic and asked for a water pump for my '63 75 hp johnny and he tried to sell me an impeller only. I asked him about getting the whole water pump kit and he said that that would not be necessary. The only thing that I needed to change was the impeller. Is this correct. I haven't done any dealings with this guy so I don't know if he is a straight shooter. Your advise would be greatly appreciated.

Get the entire kit.P/N 379776.Replacing just the impeller on an engine of that age is like installing new piston rings in worn cylinders.

It depends on what you find when you get in there. The impeller rides in a metal housing (or plastic housing with a metal liner). Sometimes the housing's badly worn, sometimes it looks brand-new.
