I have a 4cylinder merc , but my question relates to the water input line from after the impeller.

Can some sort of low pressure sensor be hooked into this line to monitor water pressure?

The reason I ask is that when the pressure drops from a bad impellor this monitor could be seen, or heard right away?

or am I off the mark here due to other reasons?

thanks :)

Sounds like a good idea. I thought about it long ago. Wondered why outdrive manufacturers dont install one. I guess everyone should always monitor thier temp. gauges.

Or even a glass eye would be cool. Like those expensive fuel filters.
Im going to look for something like this to use for my boat.
Great Idea

I think there is a water pressure guage available. I don't know where it would hook in though. (my guess would be where the black hose enters the boat through the transom. i too considered trying to get something like this for my boat.

DougV>

An Outboard Water Pressure Gauge can Easily be plumbed into the cooling system..........
There Should be unused ports in the T-stat Housing, or in the Intake Manifold, or in the Engine Block.......
If you'd rather View the water,
Run down to the Hardware Store,+ grab a length of 1" Clear Vinyl Tubing,
And use that for the In-coming Water Line, between the outdrive,+ T-stat Housing.......
My Choice was between the P/S Cooler,+ the T-stat Housing..........

In the spirit of seeing how it turned out here's the water line modification

dsc00285.jpg

it's that clear white line near the right of the picture
you can see the 3/4 inch vinyl inlet pressure line with a 30 psi gauge and black roofing tar cement sealer -- :) works a charm

now I can see the inlet water moving in the engine compartment as well as measure it.

All I need is a garden hose screen in the water supply line to stop impeller shards from entering the engine .

A great little boat.
