I have taken the lower unit off of my Alpha I drive in order to change out the impeller and assembly. But I am having problems.
How does the old impeller come off of the shaft? Or does the shaft come out with the impeller still on it and then the impeller slides off the bottom of the shaft?

I'm stuck until I figure this out, so thanks in advance for any advice :D

Re: Impeller problem

It slides up off the shaft, the shaft stays put. Pull it straight up, may take a little muscle......JK

Re: Impeller problem

you have to remove first the housing cover. the impeller is inside this housing. then slide it upwards towards the end of the shaft.

Re: Impeller problem

a factory service manual will come in handy. read it while eating your wheaties and its all clear. but sometimes the impeller is a bit stuck and needs to be persuaded to come off. check the lower base for any sign of melting. any sign of melting is cause for replacement of either housing.
