impeller questions

how often shoudl we replace the impeller housing and the plastic seal carrier?

i pulled my drive today and the impeller was a little chewed up and the pick up tube was slightly melted so i will replace them.

but what about the housing and carier??

The Gen II drive has a SS waterpump housing. Unless it has some deep grooves in it, I wouldn't worry about replacing the housing.
I would use a new OEM impeller kit, at least the first time. The kit includes the lower plate and gaskets, along with a new face seal AND, the tool that installes it. Something the aftermarket kits fail to provide.
I recommend to my customers to replace them after 3 years. They may still be good, but you never know what happens underwater and you can't see. If after 3 years every thing was working ok when you took it apart, why put a 3 year old impeller back in.

Thanks Don. what about the seal carier?? You say impeller repair kit (30$), NOT Rebuild kit (110$) right??

HOW is sierra?? OR strichtly OEM?

I'm talking about Merc kit 47-43026Q06.
Personally, I don't like aftermarket stuff.
