I was told to change the water pump for the 1979 6hp outboard and am having a hard time finding it. Could it be the impeller is what I am looking for?

I found the impellers but not one or a kit for my motor. Where can I look?

You do not say what brand outboard it is or the model year.

Part number is FA516060. Mercury shows the part is no longer availible. You could try doug russell.com. They show the same part number but twice the cost. Parts for smaller chryslers have totally disappeared. I am suprised you were able to find a new impeller for it. If you dont have any luck try Twincityoutboard or chryslercrew.com. Email Franz and he might be able to help.

Yes the impeller is the part of the water pump that most often need replacing.

I tried a few sources, and all listed it as no longer available.
Keep looking, you might get lucky.
You may need to buy a water pump kit, or a complete water pump, to get the impeller.

Good luck.

If that's a Chrysler 6, last year I replaced an impeller for a guy. Part was available through the Mercury dealer, but it is a different part than all the other small engines and cost 26 bucks.

Thanks

This 6hp is a 79, model 64H9E and serial 5661. I have been all over the web. How can you tell if another engine's part can be used in your motor? Even places that say they have hard to find parts start with the higher hp motors.

Can they be repaired if need be?

Twincityoutboard emailed me back and asked that I send along the old part. I'd hate to lose it.

LOL. Every time I have dealt with TC Outboard they say the same thing. I live about 25 miles from them. They have motor parts dating back to 1902. I bet they would have one however they dont use part numbers they match it to what they have laying around. Keep an eye on ebay. You might find a junk one that you can send to them so at least you have one. Thursday night is chat night at the chrysler crew. Ask either Franz or Hurk. One of them might have one or try the marine doctor. Good luck

How can I cross reference Chrysler with Mercury? This thing is driving me nuts.
