Re: Impeller
There's an oval sideplate on the midsection starboard side that covers the shift shaft connection. It's about 2 inches long. Take it off (2screws). Loosen the bottom screw on the connection and slide the shift shaft down. I believe there's 5 or 7 bolts holding the l.u. on--- take out all these bolts holding on the lower unit. You'll need a 1/2" and 9/16" end wrench, if I remember right. I like to put it in neutral before removing lower unit. Then take off the screws holding on the water pump housing cover. When you remove the impeller, be sure not to lose the little key that the impeller sits on. I believe your new impeller will come with a new one but you don't want the old one missing in action. Put a little oil or grease on the impeller blades (VERY handy) and reinstall the pump housing cover while spinning the shaft counter-clockwise. Make sure you've reinstalled your impeller key!
You may have to turn your flywheel a little to get your drive shaft to line up, and I believe there's probably a little o-ring that fits on the top of your shaft. If it's there when you pull out the lower unit, don't forget to reinstall it. It'll be a small pain to get the drive shaft lined up to reinstall but you'll get it. Make sure your water tube is in the grommet. Watch for any bad grooving on the pump insert, if they're bad, you'll probably want to replace.
It's a really easy job!
