In Line Fuel Filter Question

Hey all,

I decided to add an inline fuel filter between the engine and the tank for some added security. When I went out on Saturday I found it hard to get the engine started again after running WOT and pulling a tube and skiers.

Does an in line fuel filter cause this type of issue where you seem to have to choke and put the boat in neutral and give additional gas to get it going? I am assuming that the fuel filter is the issue because I did not have this issue when I tested it on the water a few weeks ago.

There was a fresh tank of fuel, 50:1 oil to fuel ratio per the specs on the transom tag and sea foam to clear out anything that was left from the previous decarb, new plugs.

I also noticed that after running hard at WOT and coming to idle that the exhaust smoke was white but was not sure if this was due to the humidity on Saturday, engine runs fine and does not miss, is this normal when running sea foam through the tank with the oil mixture?

Thanks!

Re: In Line Fuel Filter Question

If you ran sea foam then that could explain the smoke..but water also can give off a white smoke...if your feul is fresh , water seperator installed, and the ratio of oil is good then you may be ok..

I would check the sperator for any signs of water...and if you can, drain the carb bowls into a container and see if water droplets appear...if so, then the white smoke was probably a little water vapor

As far as the inline filter.. well, since your problem just occured i would say ditch the second filter...it can sometimes add more resistance to the feul pump forcing it to work harded to get the feul it needs..

put some dry gas or stabil in te tank for good measure

rock on!
