I have ben advised not to install an in line filter on my Bayliner Ciera with a Volvo engine due to potential for leaks in the engine compartment. I am fairly new to boating put very good with a wrench and am confident that I can do a good job. I am very anal about repairs and would never opperate with the blower not working. What do you all think? I am new to the site so any information is appreciated.

Re: in line fuel filter

Best bet would be to install a cannister type filter/water seperator.Very safe and easy to install and will do a better job then an inline.Charlie

Re: in line fuel filter

If a leak were to develop, it could dump gas into the bilge and create an explosion hazard. I'm betting they're thinking you're wanting to install an el-cheapo automotive plastic filter. You don't want to do that.

There are marine spin-on filter kits. They work fine and save problems. I've worked on many older Bayliners with 4 cylinder Volvos and there's no filtration whatsoever. STUPID! As long as it's done right, I think such a filter would be an asset. Just make sure it's mounted higher than the fuel tank.
