Hi Guys

I am a newbie to all this outboard stuff and am in need of some help. I am looking for info on what prop i should be looking for to fit my application and maximize performance.

The engine is a 1968 Mercury 500 outboard. (with a stingray fin)

The boat is 1969 Gw Invader 10ft

I am just finishing the restoration on the boat so unfortunatly i have no current performance numbers. I have a feeling it's not gonna take much to get it out of the hole with this motor on such a small boat. But i do want to see some crazy top end though. I have been looking on some of the prop manufacturere web sites but am having a hard time finding anything listed that will even fit the engine.

Thanks for any help at all
Nick

First thing lose the fin.Motor height is important. The antiventplate (just above the prop)even with the bottom is considered a starting point.Test and raise the motor 1/4" at a time ,with 1/4" sticks placed on the top of the transom, to a point just before venting becomes a problem.Be sure it pumps water. You need a tach (perhaps a tinytach)and a gps for speed. With your present prop size, and max rpm and speed we can help decide what you need.Don't have 68 info but 69 500s rpm range is 4,800-5,500.Its ok to run beyond that for short tests.I'm in the same boat as you with a 65 Merc 500 I will be playing with the prop at some point.
Johns Old Mercury Web Site may be able to help with props or info. ebay may be one place to look. You may be able to have present prop repitched.
