It is poping in and out of gear going backwards only. Could this just be in cable adjustment? If so how do you set it up? If not what do I need to check? It is A 1975 Merc Inline 1500 150H.P.ob<br />Thanks, Tim

Tim, The gears on that motor will "click" into F-N-R. I would disconnect the gearshift cable at the motor, put the LU and control into Reverse, and see where the barrel adjuster is set. Perhaps it is a combination of a worn gearcase and/or control and a misadjusted cable.

Exactly.... try disconnecting the cable and seeing where it sits in the adjustment range. You might be able to re-set it to do verse OK. Don't run it like that or reverse WILL go away forever.<br /><br />-W
