Why not rebuild what you have?

Hope Bondo comes around but Vortec appears to not have happened until 1996. If you don't have a vortec motor you may need to go with a pre vortec motor. Either are available but meed to verify what you have. Do you have the serial number of the motor?

Ayuh,..... The Vortec name appeared on the valve covers a couple years, Before the fast burn Vortec heads came out in '96,....

The number of intake bolts is the easiest way to tell,.... Vortec is 4 on a side, pre-vortec 6 on a side,...

Without buyin' a new intake, you'll need a pickup motor from '95 or before,....
Buy a Vortec intake, 'n you can run a '96, 'n newer,....

S-10s are good sources. Your 95 is not a vortec headed motor unless it has been changed. The vortec heads came out in 1996.

we do not need pics, if your intake manifold has 12 bolts holding it to the heads, its a 95 or older. if your intake has 8 bolts, its a 96 or newer.

Not that it makes or breaks the purchase of a used motor that is not the same, but there is also other year model differences:
  • 1987 roller lifters and cam and one piece main seal
  • 1992 balance shaft added
  • 1996 Vortec heads with 8 bolt intake

lynnboy's 95 would most likely be 12 bolt intake, w/balance shaft and roller cam/lifters. Any of his parts and pieces would crossover on a similar block. Things get more interesting when you get a motor that has different components only if you have to swap over timing chain cover, oil pan, lifters and pushrods, stuff like that.

so the intake has 12 bolts 6 on each side...

Anything from 87 to 95 should work for you and be the same. You can use literally any of your parts then.

There is nothing wrong with going 96 and up except you'll need to make allowances for a different intake manifold, possibly a little difference in carb height, different valve covers. Exhaust stuff will bolt right up. You gain a little HP going to the Vortec (8 bolt intake) heads - terrible, huh :^) Wide range of choices and most all of them are easy to find and not hard at all to figure out how to stick your mercruiser parts on 'their' block.

Not to barge in the thread, but I think it is relative. Does it matter whether the 4.3 vortec is an MPI or TBI motor? Or are the fuel injectors seated in the intake?

Thanks,

MPI's are, TBI's are not, but they use the same block

Ayuh,.... The induction system off the truck ain't very adaptable to the boat motor, so it gets tossed, replaced by the original marine system, or a new intake, 'n carb,...

The Only thing that gets used from the pickup motor is the Long Block assembly,.....
