I havn't been around because I am getting ready to start my 3rd week of police academy. I haven't had any time, it is busy busy busy, and they don't allow chat rooms or message forums to be participated in on their computers. I went and bought a wireless card for my laptop and set that up, they provide wireless hubs for us to use in our off time. Now I can gaze longingly at boats, knowing that when I graduate and head home, it will be just in time to start fishin' again. I'll be down here until the end of March, and it is fishin' time in April. YEAH!

The fishing will be all the more rewarding, whether anything is caught or not.
Thank you for continuing your service to the American public.

Be aware that ALL of your internet surfacing and communications are being monitored if they are going thru the academy's computers. Prob not a problem, but just in case there is anything personal that you wanted to keep personal...

Have a friend that did her training at Quantico (FBI). She told me what gets monitored and how. It was an eye opener, changed the way I use my cell phone, and internet.

Glad to see you are in the academy. How long is your training period there? Mine was eight weeks but we got to go home on Fridays and holidays.

Even after that you will have most likely 40 hrs a year in service at minimal. That is not including all the other special schools you will be offered.
I have enough certificates on my wall if they gave collage credits for them I would have every degree in law enforcement has to offer.

Good luck Jason you are embarking on a career that will be rewarding, and frustrating and long but short to.

Yeah, I know things are monitored. That was how people got busted surfing wireless during lecture last week. One was shopping for shoes, some were checking stocks, it was pretty funny. Its fine in our off time as long as it is clean. I can guarantee if someone is checking porn, they will hear about it. Plus, there are video cameras everywhere, so people need to do the right thing.

Bubba, the basic patrol is 10 weeks, and then I'll FTO back at the PD for as long as they feel I need to before unleashing me onto the public. It'll be fun...

Don't know what the environs of your department are like, but when I got out of the academy, I didn't have any fishing time for about 5 MONTHS!

Not that I'm trying to rain on your parade or anything - just lettin' ya know...

Re: In the off chance anyone was curious...

I've been out of my academy for about 11 years, and still fight for fishing time. I have been fishing 3 times since graduation, twice was when I went with the Sheriff.
Our academy was 13 weeks, then back for 1 week of traffic RADAR. Your in your third week, that was about when the scare tactics stopped and the mind games started. Do you have a lot of PT exercises? That and defensive tactics stunk, pursuit driving and firearms rocked!

Good luck to you and keep posting when you can to keep us all updated. It is all worth it in the end.
