A while back I ran across a 1986 2 stroke 25 hp Merc, electric start, with cables. I had the carb off couple times, finally I soaked the carb parts in a Napa product and ordered a carb kit. I could not get it to idle before the carb kit nor after the carb kit. Finally I sent the carb out to have it done by a professional at $122. Well it came back and I took my time and put it back on with high expectations and now I can't get it to even fire. While I had the carb in the shop I took a look at the reed valves and I could c a small amount of light so I reversed them and got rid of the light . What the hell happened? Due to the frigid temps here in Ohio I had the motor sitting in a tub of water in the unheated garage, Did my leaving it in the ice cold water or sitting over a 20 gal. of water cause a problem or did the reed valve turn around do something. This motor would be hard starting and would not idle now with rebuild carb it wont even fire.
I got good spark. I didnt take a compression test now but I did when I brought it home 3 weeks ago. I no u r not supposed to use starting fluid on a 2 stroke so I shot a little gas in the front of the carb so I no its getting fuel. Still no fire in the hole> HELP!!!! and Thanks as always
