Re: inboard or outboard?

i'm not an expert, but i think it's mostly preferance. I've owned i/o mostly because i like the look better. they are like car engines so i can work on them easily. they are heavier than o/b, but they usually have more power. i'm sure o/b fans can give you more pro's on them.

I also like I\O's. Easy to winterize and do regular maintainance. Looks cleaner. Look to go fuel injected. As a new boater, you'll be glad you spent the extra $$$$. Easier to start, less tuning, better gas mileage, more HP.

I/O all the way baby!!!

Plus Outboards would look silly on a 274 Cabrio.

Re: inboard or outboard?

I'm restoring a 1969 larson lapline,it has a mercruiser 120,it has a carb and contact points, old school to say the least but very dependable once you get the carb unglued.I/O has it's advantages.I'm looking into restoring an old outboard.we'll see how that goes.eventually I'd like to get my hands on an inboard so I can get the jist of all three worlds in boating....Good luck to you in what you decide and keep on boating

IMHO,

Outboards:
Buy the mixing oil
Louder
IMO, GREAT for fishing boats

I/O Drive
Quieter
Smoother
Boat is heavier
Sleeker look

Personal preference.......... I/O drive !!!

Have owned both I/O, and outboard, will hopefully never go back to the outboard

Re: inboard or outboard?

my 1999 sei 186 has an evinrude 130 outboard. what ive found is: decent performance, light weight, easy to maintain, great fuel economy and lots of room in the boat. My dislikes? family wants a sun pad on the back and a full swim platform so i'm selling to get into an i/0 with a nice pad and platform. this will be my first inboard so will have to see if happier this way.

I/O is cleaner on the back end. I feel that I/O gets much better fuel economy then an Outboard. If you go with an outboard, go 4 stroke. quiter, better fuel economy then 2 stroke, you can run it anywhere. Between the two the only real advantage I see is weight. My 3 cents.

What about throwing salt water into the equation?
