Inboard report question..

Hey there,

I just need some opinions on a possible option on repowering my project boat. Its a 89 Larson citation 18' bowrider for the background info..

I recently pulled the 3.0 mercruiser out and I'm getting ready to strip and evaluate for a possible rebuild. However in the meanwhile, I have come across a running motor and outdrive that would run me the same, or cheaper than a rebuild. The only downfall is that it's a 6 cylinder (mercruiser). Although I have heard that my small 3.0 may lack in power, I'm unsure as if possibly going that much higher in power is a good idea.

I need opinions on if this may be too much for my boat as far as weight or power? Any advice is appreciated. I am not concerned on the engine mounts because I will be glassing in new mounts when I redo the stringers and floor regardless. Thanks in advance!

Re: Inboard report question..

A well tuned 3.0l should easily be powerful enough for that boat unless you want to pull a team of water skiers up. You didn't say if the 6 cylinder is an older in-line (165hp) or a V6 (anything from 175hp to 220hp)
