Hi All,

Thanks for the feedabck on drilling the holes in the prop. The boat isn't currently running, but will be soon, so i will try it before drilling any holes. Maybe i do need a new prop!!!

I was wondering if you could help me identify a part on my 1980 115 Johnson. (sorry my digital camera is not working). The part is on the right hand side of the engine (Standing from behind the boat). It is held onto the block by two screws and the top of this electrical part is round. it is made of aluminium with a resin on the back were the wires go into it. It's not the fuel pump. It has three wires coming from it, two yellow and one red. all wires attach to the to the wiring block about an inch away.

The reason i am asking is this part becomes really hot over time. Just wondering what it does and should it become so hot.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Stephen

Re: Indentify part

Hey Stephen....that is the rectifirer. This takes the AC produced by the stator and changes it to DC for battery charging. If it's getting hot to the point of not being able to touch it comfortably, there is a most likely a problem in the charging system. Could be just the rectifier is bad. If you have a manual, the procedure for testing with an ohm meter is in there and is very easy to do.

Just set the meter for mid range ohms', measure from each yellow wire to the red one way, then reverse the leads. The idea is to read from the yellow to red one way and not the other. If either lead fails the test, replace the rectifirer. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks.
