Re: info about my 1.5 hp johnson

Howdy, Wes.

I have records of Johnson 1.5hp engines (MS and MD15 and 20) being made from 1940 to 1942, and another (I don't have the model #) from 1968 to 1969. There may be more. The Green/Cream colors suggest the MS and MD models to me.

If there is no Model and Serial# plate attached to the clamp, look for a freeze plug somewhere on the block.

Winterizing is a pretty generic procedure, in fact there are several reliable generic procedures.

All have in common to get the carb dry and the crank and cylinder lubricated. Most recommend changing the lower end oil. Some recommend replacing the water pump impeller, but I leave that to Spring prep.

Let us know what you find on the numbers.

Good luck. :)

I don't know, but if it is the old style wrap rope around starter, then the SN and MN will be stamped on it.
Just my .02 worth.

Re: info about my 1.5 hp johnson

hello wes
Your 1R69c is a 1969 model 1.5hp. The fuel mixture is 50:1. The two screws you refer to are needle valves for the carberator. They adjust air/fuel mixture. The top valve is for low speed and the bottom is for high speed. Once they are adjusted properly you really don't need to mess with them much. You might try a trip to the local library and read up a little on outboards. You can also read up on this board. The more you know about you motor and others like it the more dependable it will be. Always glad to answer your questions. Good luck.
