It is '60, CD17 model 5.5 Johnson .
It was unused for a couple of years, and now it has a hard time starting.
Sometimes the motor starts, and runs for about 10 sec, as if the gas would run out.

Here is what we have done so far: The compression is 72 and 75 psi. What is the correct compression for this motor?
It has a new fuel pump, and we cleaned the carb, and ordered a rebuild kit for the carb. What is the correct float level for that carb?
We checked the reed plate, the valves are snug against the plate.
The ignition was rebuilt a couple of years ago, it looks new. We checked the caps (0.2uF dead on, both) cleaned the points, and the sparks jump about 1/4".
We are testing it now with the fuel filter by-passed. The gas tank is newes, and it has new fittings on the hose.
As for the carb needle settings, we have heard it is from 3/4 to 1 1/4 opening to start with it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like a problem I had with mine. I just replaced the fuel line leading to the filter and it worked! I still don't get it.
