Probably don't have enough information to ask a good question, but here goes. Looked at a 10hp Chrysler outboard. 2 cyl, pull start. Seller said something about it being a 70's model. Checked the compression 60 and 75 even after a squirt of oil. Put in some strarting fluid and put plugs back in to see if it will start. No start. Handle was in the start position, so what could cause no spark? Plugs were black and one also had a reddish tint. Checked foir spark by pulling plug and grounding it out while pulling thru. Don't think there has ever been a overheat problem due to no discoloration of the engine paint and the blackness of plugs. Maybe a rich condition and carbon causing the rings not to seal. With handle in forward and then reverse the prop did not move, is this normal? What do you think? Was listed for 125 but said he wanterd it gone for 60. Deal or no deal? Thanks JH

The way I look at these situations is if you don't mind selling it for parts if it does not work out, than you will probably be just fine paying $60. Probably make a couple bucks!

I must have asked the wrong question. How is the ignition on these engines set up? Simple points and coil set up or the stator, trigger and electronic gizzmos of the larger engines? Also, when the control handle is in forward or reverse, should the prop turn if the pull rope is pulled thru a few times? Knowing this info would clear up questions that I have for this unit. Thanks for the response. JH

I was only answering the deal or no deal question.

Right, fine, I appreciate your insight. Was trying to get others to share their knowledge with this newbie. Not familiar with two strokes and outboards in particular. Gday mate. JH

Re: Info help on motor

Did a search for "10hp chrysler". Didn't find too many hp specific threads but did notice a reoccuring theme. Parts for these small hp motors are getting harder to get. So, I think this motor is a lost cause, too many issues, too little knowledge and too nervous to proceed. Have a good one. JH
