I just bought a 1970 Glastron boat with a 1980 (81?) Mercury 140 motor. The seller was convinced it is a 150 so I'm not 100% sure.

Serial number: 5742830

Does anyone know where I can get an OEM repair manual, owner's manual, or any other documentation? I have the Seloc 1965-1983 manual and I think a Clymer one is available, but I have not found any OEM manuals and Mercury doesn't have anything online.

Engine works, if a bit rough. I just want to find out how to do some basic maintenance and maybe debug the non-working Tilt and Trim system.

Thanks!

The number is to old/low to pick it up doing a computer search so an exact match is difficult for exact HP without looking into carburetor numbers, etc..
Either HP it is, the engine year is 1980/81 as they both are close to the same serial number ranges.
It's an inline 6 cylinder correct? If so then OEM Merc manual part number 90-86134--4 covers engines,
75, 80 & 85 (4 Cylinder)
AND 90, 115 &140 (In-line 6 Cylinder)
AND 150 (In-line 6 Cylinder)
(U) 4590512 and Above (A) 8043775 and Above (B) 9139350 and Above (C) 7091098 and Above
(U) 4112635 and Above (A) 8027115 and Above (C) 7047258 and Above
(U) 4121435 and Above (A) 8028040 and Above (C) 7048783 and Above
90

If not then here is the manual guide to use to find the correct manual, http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...boards/470907-service-manual-index#post470907

How is the seller so sure it is a 150? The last yr there was an inline 150 was 1977. In 78 the V6 150 came out and mercury decided to relabel the inline engine as a 140 so as not to have two 150s. As the years went on mercury did make small changes to the 'new' 140 and it no longer was the old 150. In 1972 there was also a 140, a completely different engine from the 1978-1983 140s Post a pic of your engine

I think the seller was just confused, it says "140 MERCURY" on the side and the serial number fits the pattern for 140's. It was a rebuilt engine (sold in 1990) though, so I suppose there could be some 150 parts in there.

If it says 140 Mercury on the wraparound, and the wrap has blue stripes of various shades, it is an 1980 - 83
