I don't know a ton about boats, but I've run into a maxum 1700 xr...looking for basic opinions of this pretty thing?

Its a 27+ yr old boat

Its current condition is significantly more important then anything else.

Basic cheap boat really. Usually with an outboard like a force. Usually that force has blown up long before now. If it hasn’t, it’s just about to.
The gelcoat will no doubt be dull and faded beyond recovery by now, unless it’s be little used and kept inside.
Upside is it will get you on the water, but just don’t pay too much money for it and avoid if it still has that force on it...unless it’s almost free in cost.
good luck.

CONDITION!!! - make sure you read the sticky at the top of the forums for the buyers checklist. And look the boat over carefully.

Max as an entry level brand that limited it's build options to lower the price out. They were typically good lookin' boats, but nothing "special" in the build area. If it's an outboard with a Force, then consider that carefully. Force wasn't well known for being a long lasting motor. Lots'a folks don't like them.

If it's an I/O with an OMC system in it, then that would be another concern too.

Welcome aboard.
