Hello,
I have a couple of questions concerning a motor that I picked up last week. How can I find out what year and model it is--RKL-30d?

Also, the lower portion of the motor that contains the prop and water pick up moves about a 1/2 inch forward and backswards, is this normal?

Im not getting any water throught the engine and was told that it probably needs an impeller, is it difficult to replace on this engine? What is the best repair manual to use? Where is a good place to find the impeller and manual?

Thanks again,
Duke

Welcome to the forum!

Looks like you have a 1968 40hp. And no the lower unit is not supposed to move even one little bit. Supposed to be as tight as mamas drawres.

You can get Manual and parts from Marineengines.com

Good luck!

Thanks Goodoleboy,
Yeah, the lower unit can actually be moved backwards and forwards about 1/2 inch. What can be done to correct this? Ever hear of something like that?-----mama's drawers---LOL

Thanks again,
Duke

How did you find out it was a 1968? Is there a website or method of finding it out?

Duke

You can find out about model numbers in FAQ'S .

You must have some broken bolts some place on the leg that attaches to the bottom of power head.

Or mabey just the lower unit moves just below the anti Cav. plate.

I cant quite see it from Iowa...."Grin"

Good Luck!
