I have a 1978 mercury 900 (inline 6 90hp) that I am trying to find some spare parts for. I came across a Mercury 125 BP that is an inline 6 also for $75, so my question is can I use Mercury 125 BP parts on my engine? I know nothing about the 125 BP model so any info would be useful.

Correction. It is just a mercury inline 6 125 hp. The h looked like b in photos. However, my question is still the same.

The BP is a very special model do not think you will ever see one of those for $75.-------Parts interchangeability can be determined by serial # only.-----No serial # = no help.

Re: Info on Mercury 125 BP

Serial number for my Mercury 900 (90hp) is 5298351 which I believe is a 1978

Serial number for the Mercury 1250 (125hp) is 2414802

Gee, those motors are a decade apart. I would not expect the ign systems or other electrical parts to swap over.

Re: Info on Mercury 125 BP

Looking to have extra parts of anything. Lower unit gears, prop shaft, prop, lower unit casing, carbs, and if I am lucky some electrical like a switchbox, distributor, etc (I am not sure if they still had a points ignition system in 1968). I don't mind spending $75 on an engine I can at least get some parts for, but if nothing will swap it's worthless to me. Any ideas? Just looking at the parts diagram, the parts look similar but there is really no way for me to tell.

I suppose you could take the time to look this up.-----Go to -----mercruiserparts.com--- And compare all the part #'s between the 2 motors.

Re: Info on Mercury 125 BP

Not a whole lot will interchange. thing that will are: complete lower unit, some fuel parts, switchbox, shift linkage. $75 is good price on a lower unit....
