I am looking at a 1995 19 ft Ski Ray with a 350 magnum type engine. The boat apperars to be in good condition and is on a custon trailor. The company I ambuying it from is a llocal Sea Ray dealer and has a good reputation. My question is how does the Sea Ray compare to other Ski Boats. Thanks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Ski Ray was a good boat, but it does not compare to the pro skiboats on the market.
Take it for a ski and then make up your mind. Not everyone likes to ski behind the same boat and if sking is your primary cocern, ski the boat befor you buy.

Thanks for your input. I am looking to buy this as a recreational skier. I presently have a 15ft Sea Sprite with a 90 hp Johnson that struggles to pull out larger skiers.

MK,

If I were you, i would go with a make that KNOWS skiing, which was definitely not Sea Ray, who knows cruisers and run-abouts. Also, I might add that Sea rays quality dropped after 1981 when I owned mine and had major problems with the floors rotting out...

I am a hard-core skier and I highly recommend one of three boats:

1. 1996 Mastercraft Prostar 190

2. 1993 Mastercraft Prostar 205 (my boat)

3. 1998 Malibu Response LX.

I can almost guarantee one of these three models will satisfy your needs, and will have NO problem getting big skiiers up. Personally, I think the 1996 MC is the best skiing boat, but I prefer the bigger MC 205 for the open bow, etc. The Response LX may be the best boat on the market today though and skis excellent.

Take BW's advice, take the boat for a ski before you buy.

Txs River Rat, Thanks for responding. My attraction was the size (19 ft - I need a smaller boat due to the size of the lake) and the name. I have heard that Sea Ray was a higher quality boat. Live and learn....

No problem, MK.

The three boats I mentioned I can almost guarantee can go anywhere the SkiRay can, and are much better boats.
