Hello,

I have an '85 7.5 that i use for my kicker motor. I am needing to replace the throttle cables as mine have rusted out.
I have a Seloc manual, but it has almost no info on disassembly/reassembly for the tiller arm (Not a fan of these, but could not find a Merc version for this motor). I have been able to find an exploded parts diagram from Marineengine but would love some more detailed info/

Does anyone have any service information or diagrams i could use to work on this thing?

Thanks a bunch

Ian

Still working away on this. Have both the Seloc manual as well the Mercury service manual, and no one has any info on how to disassemble the tiller arm. I've been able to get it to this point, but struggling to figure out how the 2 linkages mate. If I put them together and screw in the set screw, the 2 triangle pieces don't lock the way I would expect them to.

I am having a heck of a time removing the end cap piece. It looks like it is supposed to just pull out, but does not seem to want to do that!

Lastly, I have ordered another another block/cable guide(#8 in the diagram) but the one I removed had the throttle cables integrated into it. Wondering if anyone has run into this before?

OK,
I found out how to disassemble the tiller arm. I ended up sacrificing a piece that is VERY HARD to get in the process. Hopefully someone will see this and it may save them scouring the internet the way I did to replace a broken and rare part. There is literally zero information on this in either manual that I have for this HP motor(including Mercury's own shop manual.

For removing the tiller arm. Referring to above diagram

-you disconnect throttle cables(#10) from throttle assembly(#26)
-remove 2 screws(#15) from side of steering arm bracket(#16)
-pull tiller arm back and remove screw washer and spring(#18,19,20) from middle of steering bracket
-remove cable block guide #8. If the end of the throttle cable doesn't come easily, don't pull it(I had some strange piece here that had the cable molded in it.) If you can't get them out go on to next steps
-Remove handle(#1) by loosening and pulling it back over cap handle(#2)
-hold throttle shaft(#3) firmly and loosen cap handle, unscrewing it counterclockwise
-remove pin(#4). I was able to do this with a medium size nail and small hammer.
-gently tap on end of throttle shaft. It should come out relatively easily. If you were not able to get other end of throttle cable out, it should be removable once you get throttle shaft out.

Good luck! Don't break the throttle shaft. ALmost impossible to find that part!
