Info request for 275 Outdrive

I've got 2 questions.......I don't have a man ual and hope someone here does.<br /><br />I have a 1986 Bayliner, 275 Volvo outdrive.<br /><br />Need to know quantity and weight of the outdrive oil to replace........<br /><br /><br />Second question is, previous owner told me m y prop needs to be a higher pitch, and he's right, top speed is like 30mph at 3200 rpm (That's max rpm)......what pitch prop is STANDARD for a 275 outdrive (4 cylinder engine).<br /><br />Tx,<br /><br />Scott

Scott, can't answer your out-drive question, but there is a new section of this forum devoed strictly to "Prop" questions...I'm sure you will find the answer there....Either you are over-propped or something else is up....Don't let it continue...'Lugging' will harm your engine.....I would think about a 14X17 though....JK

2.3 qts. 10w30 or 10w40 SG minimum.<br /><br />There is no 'standard' prop. You need to prop for WOT RPM's. What motor/AQ package do you have?

10W30 - GEAR oil I assume? <br /><br />Someone thot it was 90 weight and I thot "Man that's too t hick"......<br /><br />Thanks, <br /><br />and I"ll check on the prop in the prop forum.......<br /><br />Also this is the AQ131D I believe......

No, that's engine oil although according to a recent post by Don, VP has changed it's reccomendation to a straight 30 gear oil. Don't use a 90 weight.<br /><br />Your max RPM is 5000. Assuming that the motor is is producing all the HP it can (tuneup etc), you are way overproped.

Volvo has NOW labled a bottle that says 30W gear lube. But it's engine oil..... But the price is higher. <br />It will also take between 2 and 3/4 to 3 and in a few cases even more to fill the drive. Just depends on how it was cast and machined. Use the dip stick (without screwing it in) to check the level. Anywhere on the flat is ok, but I like to keep it within the upper 1/2" or less.<br />And you REALLY, REALLY, need to get that WOT rpm up to 4700 to 5000 rpm, or you are just giving your engine an early death by overloading it.
