A short while ago I bumped into a posting (dont know how it started) that predictably moved to the old prop question regarding how many blades and what pitch etc.
In a reply in the thread a very interesting and helpful link was given by a member where one can get all the required information with pictures about the design, characteristics, use etc of the different types of props and I think the first page of the link started by stating "that the most efficient prop would be a one blader but because of the vibration ....." and then the link continued to compare etc.
Unfortunately I cannot remember the date of the posting but it cant be very old and I used search and tried my best paging through a few hundred pages but I cannot find the relevant topic.
Is there anybody out there that can point me in the right direction please?
Thanks a lot.
D

heybaylor
As promised, have a look at the site in question, go to Chapter 4 Propeller Technology, go to the section Number of Blades and check out the two paragraphs.
My pleasure.
D

Damdan , ok I read it ..
it says that a one blade is the most efficient..
also that more is less vibrating ..
so whats the point ..
nothing is said about drag..( my point)
a four blader still has to be of lessor pitch to achieve the same rpm as a 3 .

I dont think I missed anything
I respectfully stand by my statements

The more blades on the prop, the higher the engine mounting height...
You gain RPM from less lower unit drag and more surfacing of the blades, but also, with more blades, you have more in the water.
There is a bit more drag with a 4-blade if the engine is left at the same height, but that's not how we set up a 4-blade, so it doesn't matter.
Either wheel, 3, 4, 5-blade if stamped 17 pitch is 17 pitch.....one revolution (theory), 17 inches fwd motion.
How the prop is used is more important than what prop is used.

Correct, walleyehed. For my set-up, more blades, motor up one hole, less vibration, better holeshot, revs perfect, better overall performance, just right. Thanks to input from members of this forum.
D
