Hello.....My question is can the 2 front motor mount bolts be taken out and mount base rebuilt without disturbing/moving the engine/drive..It is an inline 4 I/O Mercruiser...I will be replacing the mount base (wood)they screw into ...Or will I have to hook up a winch to take engine weight off wood base? Are the 2 front bolts used to support weight or mostly for torque/stress engine /drive?
...My transom was rebuilt 3 years ago and is solid (no rot composite)

Thanks,Pete

Ayuh,... It takes All of the weight,+ some of the torque...

You need to remove the drive, lift the motor slightly, remove the motor mount, repair the wood,...
Replace everything But the outdrive, then Realgin it....

Like Bond-o says - even if you could rig a harness to support the front while you rebuilt the base, the alignment is going to be changed and needs to be correctly set. For that you need to pull the outdrive. I would take the opportunity to pull the engine completely out of the way and do some maintenance, etc while you are at it.
