When I picked up a 1972 1400 a couple of months ago, it was missing the control arm. I used the control arm off a 1976 1150. It fits fine and looks like it will work without a problem, but I haven't mounted the motor to my boat yet and hooked up the controls.

I came across this auction on ebay where the seller states that he thinks the control arm from a 1972 1400 is specific to that motor only. does anyone know if thats true? if so, i should buy this part. or will i be okay with the 1976 1150 control arm?

Re: Inline 6 Control Arm

I would think that if it connects to the distributor OK and is long enough to reach the shift slider tray, it should work.

If not, I have one from a blown '77 Merc 1500 that should fit.

The 72 1400 used #60478, same as the 1150, 1400, 1500 from the same period, later the #60478 were superceded to #78992....
The #78992 were used on all further distributor models ..

The arm you got, will work perfect.
