inline 6 lower unit (merc 115)

i found a lower unit on ebay, NOS he"believes" it fits older inline 6 or four mercs..it does,from the pics, look exactly like mine...??? and problem..casting# is 16236051 casting fleetmaster 21 1/2 inch 8 spline,will it work on my serial# OA730776 inline 6 115 merc..my unit is still on motor so i can't look inside...

Hip shot here. Gonna bet you that a common lower unit was (is) used for a variety of engines (of a series) for a number of years. Just makes good business sense. Besides, why change unless it is a model upgrade. On lower units, I only know of about 4 changes in 50 years on the higher hp engines. Now you might have something like a material change in the water pump, but that shouldn't affect you.<br /><br />Mark

The same gearcase fit inline-4 650s to inline-6 1500s. The main differences are the gear ratios. That can usually be compensated with a diffrerent prop, but I wouldn't want to put a 150 gearcase on a 65 or vice versa. Find out what it was on.<br /><br />That Fleetmaster term concerns me. I think those are made for V-6s. I dunno if that would work.

i have a 115 merc i just took off and swapped it a 150 black max lower unit ok upper unit not so ok will sell or swap engine is complete can send pics if interested unit in good shape

I'm sure the V6 Merc lower units will not fit the I6 lower units - and visa versa.<br /><br />-W
