I have an Evinrude 9.9 electric start (2 cycle) that I would like to put on my 18' bowrider (4 cycle mercruiser) as a kicker motor since some of our waters are hp limited to 9.9. Plus since we are on the river a lot I refuse to go out without a back up motor....... barges don't steer around pleasure boats. Does anyone make an inline "oil mixer" which would allow me to use fuel from the main tank instead of having to put in a different tank for the kicker. I know I can trade up to a 4 cycle kicker but that will cost a bit 'o loot. I have a guy who makes custom fuel tanks for race cars and can hook me up with an aluminum one that will fit under the back seat for about $250. Any ideas?

Re: Inline oil injection

There were some inline oil mixers made at one time but I have heard they are very unreliable. I personally have no experience with them.

A second smaller tank would work fine. You could go with the custom made one or just buy a small plastic one made for smaller motors. They sell them here on iboats. They work great and are very cheap. http://www.iboats.com/3_Gallon_Tank...8172--view_id.238172--search_type.categoryand Local stores should carry them too.

Re: Inline oil injection

In the late 70s or early 80s OMC did sell an accessory fuel mixing system called OMC Economixer. Unfortunately it looks like it was only for the V4s and V6s. During the 80s OMC did have a 25 litre tank that had a small built in tank for oil and it premixed the fuel, but @ 100:1. If it were 50:1 it might have been worth to try reto fit to your existing tank. Nagh, too much work.

All things considered, trading in for a 4 stroke might be the best way to go.

I agree, it is easier to either just buy a 4-stroke kicker or use a extra tank for your current one ........
