Re: INOP RUDE

Hey vic, there might be a good reason the guy threw the motor in...lol. With the fuel diaphram being bypassed, sounds like some1 was trying 2 work on it. I would try to get spark first,if it is an 83 it should not have points. Get yourself a manual and tear in to it.good luck! P.S. try not to use all caps when typing, people take that as you are shouting at them. see ya!

Hey Vic....welcome aboard.

Yer little 4horse does have points and condensers. You can get them at yer local dealership. If they carry the tune up kit (PN 172522), it'll set ya' back about $20. Set the points on high cam at .020.

As bigwalleye suggested, get a manual. A generic should cover all you need to know although the OEM's are preferred.

With the fuel pump having been bypassed, I would strongly recommend you also get a carb kit and overhaul the carb. Take it apart and blow carb cleaner through all passages and follow up with compressed air.

The fuel pump has a fine mesh screen under the that black cover on the front. Pull the cover off and make sure it's clean. Run the big hose from the tank to the nipple on the black cover and the small hose from the pump to the carb.

And don't neglect the lower unit. Drain it and check the old lube for water. If none, refill with fresh lube. If you see water or the old oil is milky looking, you may have a bad seal.

AND...don't forget the water pump. If the engine has set for awhile, replace it to.

Check these folks out below for a OEM service manual. You can get one for your specific engine and it will guide you through all the above.

http://www.kencook.com/contactus/Contact.htm

Good Luck and don't hesitate to holler if ya' have a problem.

Re: INOP RUDE

Thanks for the info guys.Sorry for the delay but went offshore racing on the big boat. Hey Big W. didn't mean to yell at ya. New to this internet stuff.Tearing into it.,but have come up witha few questions. It seems that the plug cap is off the wire. Do I have to replace the whole assy. or can I get away w/ the plug wire itself ?

also the pump that you recommended I clean is looking a bit funky should I replace it ?
