I am considering buying a 2004 ar230 yamaha boat. Since it is no longer in warranty, I would like to get some type of peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong I won't be on the hook for too much money. So, I am considering buying a warranty plan. I would be very much appreciative if I could get feedback on some names of reputable warranty companies? Or, are there such companies out there? Thanks.

I can't answer your question about companies as I think they are all not a good deal for the Buyer. I have heard various stories of bad luck with them. They are in business to make money. What kind of price are you looking at for the coverage?

The ONLY thing I would want covered is the engines themselves IF I would want coverage and I wouldn't. Jets are amazingly simple and there is nothing else to break on a boat that you cannot fix cheaply. Mostly cosmetic issues and boat electrical stuff is dead simple. Your hull is not going to split open and the deductible will cover most other simple repairs.

I am not sure about pricing as I am very new to this. My guess would be somewhere from 500-1000. Does that sound reasonable?

Re: input on reputable secondary market warranty companies

Having been a finance manager for a local small town new car dealership, I can put this in perspective. I only used Chrysler or Ford for warranties. I threw out every Mickey Mouse "insurance" agent out. I have seen the ways they try not to pay claims. 1. We want to send out OUR inspector. 2. You don't have the receipts for your oil changes. 3. You don't have the receipt for your transmission flush. The seal is what caused your failure and we do not cover that repair because it was caused by a faulty seal. The list goes on and on. These are insurance companies not warranty companies. The manufactures have a vested interest in keeping you happy, if not you will not buy their product again. So My advise is to get a manufacture warranty if you can, if not put the money in the bank for a future repair.
