Re: input please 1993 spectrum 19.5 4.3 litre

I have one, bought it last December and although I've only had it out once, I LOVE IT!
Mine is a 1993 Bluefin Spectrum 1956 4.3l Merc alpha 1 gen 2.
It has trim tabs and needs them (I am currently rebuilding them). The boat only weighs about 1400lbs (from the factory brochure) and with the weight of the 4.3l and stern drive on the back it is bow light. I got it up to 46 mph on GPS and my gut says that I will get a couple more mph with the tabs set just right. It seemed to handle a good 2-3 foot chop no problem as is and when I get the tabs figured out that will be much better as it will push the V into the waves better.
Mine is roomy and quiet and I hope to have it a long time. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Spectrum's were pretty low end aluminum boats but if the drive is a Merc or Volvo you should be good. For older boats it's all about maintenance anyway. I'd rather have a well maintained Spectrum then a neglected Lund. That price is for a boat in excellent condition. Drop your offer for any issues you find.

Spectrum was an beginner line for Brunswick for a beginner it was a really good boat, with a 4.3 it will move right along. price is high imho for a 93, it will have a mercruiser engine and outdrive, since it is a Brunswick boat. i had a 18 outboard, enjoyed the boat.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame. You walk all over the deck, that a mallot, or hammer with wooden handle, using handle, tap all over the transom, a shape rap is good solid base, a thud, is questionable base.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. (This part for outboard motors Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,)
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.
boat motor combo, A 30 year old may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.
