Not sure of all proper terms, but you will know what I mean.

Mercury 225, 2001, EFI, prop free spinning when in gear , thought broken transmission rod. We took off lower unit and then prop to find the damage is actually inside rear of prop. Everything else good. The gear spindal inside prop looks ok, but the rear looks all striped out causing it to spin.

Is this fixable or is a new prop needed?

There is supposed to be a brass hub that is splined to the propshaft. Maybe it is still on the propshaft? Hopefully it will come off peaceably.

Props are made up of 3 main pieces. A brass hub which is splined to fit the propshaft, the shell of the prop which has the exhaust hub and blades, and a rubber bushing connecting the two. You have destroyed the rubber bushing, which does happen, but not to this extent.

I think you need a new prop. I also think you will have trouble getting the prop hub off the propshaft.

Hi. This happens when the prop has hit the ground or an object. The rubber or plastic sacrificial hub has done its job
