OK, my scupper idea is a "wash", but I still want to install the Washdown system. I have nothing now for a washdown.

What are the recommendations for the access to the sea water?
I also want to install a future livewell, should I put this into consideration with the washdown?

Boat is a 1984 Starcraft Islander 191. 3.0 L Merc with an Alpha One.

Normally a wash down system is drawn from a fresh water tank. Do you want to have a washdown that comes from Seawater? I guess you could do that, but it seems to me to be defeating the purpose a bit.

Ayuh,... In my '74 Islander,...
I use the gallon jug, as I said in your other thread, for wash-down...
Reach over the side, scoop up a gallon of water, 'n throw it across the deck, All done...

For fishboxes, I've got a pair of HUGE Coolers, that double as passenger seating....
1 side for ice, 'n refreshments,...
The other for kept Fish...
Just throw in a few gallons of water with the same bucket mentioned....

edit; drewpster,... He's fishin' the Great Lakes,...
Raw water wash-down is just Fine...

Re: Install a Washdown System?

I would make the system work before I drilled any holes in your boat..

Example: I bought a Cabellas shower/tent thing last spring so the wife and kids can rinse off in private while camping. But there was no water at the camping site. So being a boat guy..I got a 12V water pump/with regulator shutoff and connected Via hose to a 5 gal Black water jug. Yes it was ugly at first with all the hose and wires and such..but it Worked Well :). Warm hot showers ..

Your washdown can be made..try this : http://www.adventurerv.net/camper-volt-demand-water-pump-flojet-gpm-p-1276.html

This type of pump is sold in a few different GPM models..( I got my pump from the local Marine supply ).

I think I spend around 100 bucks with hoses and shower ends.. could mebbe help you ?

Re: Install a Washdown System?

Yacht Dr. - This is my plan, but I will need to drill in the boat to do this. Where do I drill this hole, how do I check valve it? Is there a bulkhead type fitting for this with a shut-off valve.

My thought was to install a solenoid valve that fails closed. So when no power applied to it, it is closed, not allowing water to the pump. Then when you apply power to it, it opens and the pump operates.

Can someone fill me in on how these are typically doe using seawater and not a fresh water tank?

Re: Install a Washdown System?

The setup I was thinking is something like this..

Through hull fitting+shut of valve+hose+inline filter+pump+hose+shower head with quick off valve.

The pump I linked to has a pressure switch built in..so when in use it pump..when not in use it comes up to pressure then auto shuts off ready for use on demand.

You set your system up like any other common on demand water system on a boat.

Just make sure you close that shut off valve at the through hull when under way or not using the boat.
