I have purchased a 2007 Mako 195 DC which has a seat on each side of the outboard motor and the battery compartment is under one of the seats that are in front of the outboard motor. I am considering mounting the battery charger on the wall under the left seat when looking towards the motor from the cockpit. A hole would have to be drilled through that wall into the battery area. The box for the battery charger showed a picture of what looks like an accessory that would have to be purchased to make for a more professional plug device. Opinions on whether that would be a suitable place to mount it.

If possible can you post a few pics of the area of the boat you are looking at and what kind of charger you are installing it would help us to better help you.

Make sure you have enough ventilation for the battery charger for cooling, usually they tell you that in the mounting instructions that came with it. You boat is new enough that the battery compartment probably has ventilation but make sure you have enough of that. When your motor is doing the charging, your outside and have plenty of fresh air moving around. In the garage you won't have any air flow so you need more open vents to get rid of the hydrogen Hindenburg gas. Sound like a good place to me.

I will not be using my boat every weekend...so during the sit up time I want to have the batteries on a charger to maintain them and have them ready for the next fishing trip. The Mako 195 is not a tiny boat to me. It has a 8-6" beam and is 19'5" in length. For some this may be tiny but it doesn't seem tiny to me. It has a 150 Suziki four stroke on it.
