I'm a new boater with a 1986 bayliner/125 Force. The motor does not have a tach or temp guage. From reading some other posts here, those seem to be essential, so I'm planning on installing them.

Can I use any tach I want? Also, how does the "sensor" for the tach work? I'm assuming that any aftermarket guages will come with instructions - is there anything I need to know that isn't likely to be in the instructions?

thanks,
Pat Reaney

i belive on your engine is a 20 pole alternator you will need a special part before you can install a tach. part# 53743p.a 6000 rpm gauge should work with no problem. as far as a temp gauge there may not be a hole in the water jacket to axcept a treaded sending unit .i have a 120 1994 and there is no hole .looking for a while to figure out how to install a temp. gauge;and finally got it.i have a faria temp. gauge the sending unit you have to purchase is by faria gauge company item # far90405;this is a unit that reads surface temp. you install it on center of head on flat surface ;they require you to remove a head bolt and reinstall .i tried it did not care for that idea ;so i install it on a cooling fin that i tap it on with a set punch works great ran the other day with it installed 110 degress all day.don;t have to worry that the pump is pumping water anymore if reading goes up know you can check the water exhust.

Cannot find wire color, but find rectifier, should have 2 wires comming from stator, one of the stator termials on the rectifier may have a second wire connected also, may be white, purple, or green this second wire is connected to termial marked sensor on tach. Wire may be in main harness at control or dash.
