I would like to install a small pedestal type table in the bow of my boat. I also prefer to use the base mount that sits flat on the floor but needs to be recessed into the floor so I won't have the edge dinging the kids toes. When I look into the ski locker it is blocked off so I cannot see what if anything is up there. Is it just a hollow void or foam filled?

The ideal way to install pedestal bases is to have access under the deck so you can add backing plates and secure everything with bolts, washers, and self locking nuts rather than just screwing the base to the floor with screws. However, if you don't have that option, you must use screw. The flat pedestals can be used even if the cavity beneath the deck is foam filled. You can drill the size hole you need and simply dig out the foam in that area so the pedestal fits. Then screw it down. The unknown however, is whether there are any other bulkheads or electrical items in that area. Use your knuckle to tap around the area. You get a hollow sound if the cavity is free of reinforcements or bulkheads. A solid sound results if there is something solid beneath the deck.

some of the base plates have a 1/2 moon black plates for each 1/2 of the circle base, that can be inserted thru the center hole.

Probably nothing to worry about under there - but take care cutting the hole and just go through the deck enough to take the hole out, don't jam down into whatever is under there. Maybe foam, no biggie there. Unlikely any electrical, etc.

I think SS screws are fine for that - I did the same thing and the plate sits in there pretty snug so not much pressure to pull it out, screws will hold fine. Make sure you put some sort of sealeant in the screw holes to keep water out if it's wood.

Nice upgrade, btw, we use ours all the time when not moving. Easy too .....
