Can someone advise me about the practicality/utility of installing a second battery on my 2005 191Starcraft Islander? I have recently installed a fishfinder and a GPS. Do I install a starting battery as the second one and what size would be most appropriate for the 3.0 liter mercruiser engine?. Do I need multiple battery switches? Where could I find a practical schematic with wire sizes for the installation?

Do you really need the extra battery? A gps and fishfinder won't use much juice at all. If you want it just case, then it would be easiest to carry one of those jump packs.

I have more or less the same boat with the same stuff :)

I have never had a problem with one battery even when camping for a week

The first question is do you have room near the orginal battery to install a second one ?

For your application, as suggested, just carry a jump start pack. You can use it in the car as well.

Are you also going to fish at night with the white light on?
