OK, I hope someone can help me with this. I spent 4 hrs on Sun. trying to install my lower unit. I had the shift shaft stem turned all the way to the right (clockwise). The front shift pin was pointed to 12:00'o clock. The prop was locked in on a counter clockwise spin (forward) and the shift lever was the whole way front. Why didn't this unit go up into place? I turned the prop counter clockwise but yet it would not go into place. It stays about 3/4" away from the top unit. I am also certain we had the water lines inserted into one another. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you, Bob

you need to wiggle the upper shoe(front shift pin?) onto the splined lower shaft while keeping it in a straght line .
you did apply some lubricant to the top grommet of the water pump cover to aid in sliding the copper tube in.

Ayuh,... 'n a finger fulla grease for the top spline of the vertical shaft don't hurt a thing either...
