installing bilge pump hull thickness question

hello, i have a 16 foot peterborough tri hull 1987 with a 70 hp merc. it never had a bilge pump from the factory and i never had a use for one as i trailer it. i have a trip coming up where she will be in the water 3 nights and storms are forecasted. i always cover it but i know some will get in..

MY MAIN QUESTION how thick is the hull at this point near the transom. i dont want to go through it like i did with my four winns i had years ago. i plan on putting a pump there, and pumping it to the well in front of the outboard motor to then exit through the scupper holes. ill probably just throw a switch in the back as ill only be using the pump a handful of times if at all..
thanks

Most boats have a piece of wood glassed onto the bottom for a mount. You could try gluing a piece of Trex or something in the bottom to use as a mount.

what about just gluing the pump mounting plate to the hull. i want it as low as possible so it takes less water to turn on. its a tiny bilge i just want to keep the water off the stringers and transom if needed.

As long as your not blocking he intake, I don't see why not.

if you are rigging it for rainstorms while moored you need a float switch, too.

You should have one regardless of your trailering, unless you are set up to be able to pull the plug and run the water out.

Oh sorry I was thinking about where you'd drill a hole for your discharge.

I't probably about 1/2"

You don't want to drill to attach it, as was stated above most boats the add a piece of of wood to screw to, but your better off just glueing it down with some 5200.

The hull might actually be cored back there. Even my old bayliner had a balsa core for the last 2 feet. Never know till you drill.

Just be careful that you don't accidentally glue the float switch to the pump mounting base, like I did last week.

The 5200 kinda oozed up thru the screw holes in the pump base.

Our sponsor here sells 5200. I'd prep it good with some acetone and stick that sucker in there. Good luck getting it loose if the pump ever goes bad tho....So on that thought glue a 1/2"block of plywood in with the 5200 thats been sealed with a coat of epoxy and mount it to that. Short screws are a must!
