Installing cleats on my houseboat

After a marine survey we found out that most of our cleats were either missing or installed in the wrong place (wooden rub rail). I need to install new ones but based on the videos I’ve watched it looks like I need a backing plate for a solid install and I can’t think of where on the inside of a houseboat I can get under the deck to place a piece of wood that would make a good plate. Does anyone know how this is done? Seems to me that all cleats better be firmly installed to be done right.

since there are thousands of manufacturers of house boats and each makes them different and you dont say what you have. only you can see what you have, so youre going to have to look.

You’re right I didn’t clarify very well. It’s a ‘77 Harbor Master V40. It looks like the cleats on the port side were installed on the walkways. I can see filled in holes that appear to resemble the bolt pattern. Can you bolt into the walkways? The report reads that they must be “through bolted”. I hope that was a better explanation. Thanks

Ayuh,....... Yer gonna have to do some diggin', 'n crawlin',.....

I've got a Nautiline, 34'er,.....
The forward cleats, I can get to, by crawlin' into the locker, 'n reachin' over to/ up under the cleats,......
The aft cleats, I can get to the backside from the engine room,......
The mid-ship starboard side cleat, I can get to through an access panel under the galley sink,.....
Port side is through a panel in the head,.....

Bein' skinny, 'n double-jointed helps,.....
