I don`t think so. If you peen the tolerance ring over it`s shot and you will need to buy a new assembly.

If you don't have a puller, use the biggest friggen slide hammer you can get your hands on 7# min 10# better:D. Make sure you drive it in straight! Good luck.

Just did mine, used a piece (about 2' long) 3" PVC Schedule 40 pipe to drive it in. Make sure you have the cut ends of the pipe square and flat, I cut mine with a compound miter saw. Put the bearing in the freezer overnite, the guys on here say it shrinks it a little. I had to hand push on it, hard to get it to stay put so I could get the pipe on it. Once i hit it to make it stay in place, I had a friend hold a piece of 2x6 against the end of the pipe while I held the pipe tight up against the bearing. I used a 10 lb. short handled sledge and gave it a few good wacks, then I would reach in and feel around the outside of the bearing, making sure it was going in straight. Wasn't the easiest way, but we got it in. You gotta keep hitting it until it seats all the way in, your hits will definitely feel different when you bottom it out. The seal was easier, I had a threaded rod with a 2" round flat base of a gear puller, tapped it right in.

If you don't have an alignment tool, you need to wait until you do to replace your drive. So if you don't have one, order one from eBay with the brg installer.

Does the bearing have to be driven all the way in..or is there supposed to be a little space between it and the seal?? Just wondering..

All those answers are in the Adults Only section. The bearing is driven in untill fully seated.
If not seated properly the drive:
Will not go on
Will put pressure on the U joints
Will put pressure on the gimbal bearing leading to failure.
The pic of the installed and fully seated bearing is in the manual.

I thought there was supposed to be hole in the bearing that you had to line up with the zerk fitting to allow grease to enter? My bearing does not have a hole to line up?

If you can find it, the new stock coming from merc uses the permalube bearing,. No more greasing it. Personally I find it to be a dumb idea for a shaft turning 4600 most of the time.

I paid extra for the genuine Mercruiser kit so that must be it. I guess I will give it a shot, I know how to replace them now so the future ones have got to go smoother.

at work we would use a cooler and dry ice to shrink bearings and that was way better then freezer we use to use fire extinguisher but safety dididnt like us to do that.

The bearing is in. I went through the paper work and it is a perma lube and never requires greasing. They also want you to install a plug where the old zerk fitting was. The freezer trick worked great and a 3" piece of pvc worked without a hitch. thanks guys
