I purchased Keel Guard & I am getting ready to install it ,I have a 6' strip. From what i've read & heard once you start putting it on it better be on right the first time because once it makes contact with your hull you can forget about repositioning it. Has anyone installed it & if so were you able to do it by yourself or did you need help? Thanks

Re: Installing keel guard

I put on the Keel Shield pretty much the same thing. I did it my self and took a couple of hours. I took my time and suggest the same. An extra pair of hands probably would have made the job alittle easier. Most of the work is getting it on the keel. Once its on the keel it is pretty much a one man job as you work the guard on from the center.

You are correct when it makes contact it will NOT move.
The Keel Shield has 3 strips 1 down the center and 1 on each side. If yours is the same remove the center about a foot and start at the bow hook area. Center it up and work your way down.
My directions required me to do the whole center first then peel back one side and work from the center out. Then do the other side.
When I put mine on it was mid 70's, so I closed up the garage and turned on the heat. It was almost 90 in the garage, toasty but made installation easier as the material formed easily around avery thing.

Good luck

JK

I also installed a KeelGuard. SingleShot hit the nail on the head.

Re: Installing keel guard

Was very easy to do. Just peel about a foot in the middle and line it up on the keel where you want . If you don't press to hard you can move it slighly. Position it then press hard. After than peel a small amout again and press that onto the keel middle. When the middle is finished start on the side the key is to start on one end and only peel the tape on the keelguard about a foot at a time then press it hard with the paddle.

Basically what SingleShot and I did. Its not that hard just take you time.

Re: Installing keel guard

My 8' went on easy, I sealed the edges with 3M 5200 Fast Cure as recommended by Keel Guard. The extra set of hands is very helpful. Beached it last week and it showed no signs of damage or releasing.

Thanks for the responses I will take my time & do the middle first 1 foot at a time & will do it this weekend, I will let everybody know how it turns out. This is definately a must since I beach my boat often.

Re: Installing keel guard

Previous recommendations are good but heres something that made my Keel Guard installation easier. I believe it is in the instructions .........

First position the Keel Guard on with duct tape and draw a line with a washable marker along both sides. This will give you good reference marks to keep things going straight during the actual application.
