installing mercruiser outdrive

i installed new bellows and installing drive went on ok. my problem it locked into shift assambly ok but i have no nuetral and yes the bolt at the shifter assambly did move .so i removed the unit and see what was up and found nothing . it's a bravo 2 1995 350 mag. ty .

Time to pull the drive back off.
The ball end of the shift cable probably missed being inside the latch of the drive, and the end of the cable is probably bent over.
Pull the latch back out of the drive with a pair of pliars, and straighten the cable. If it wasn't REALLY kinked it should work fine. Just make sure it goes into the latch properly when you reinstall the drive.

when i pulll the drive is nuetral on a detent or just in the middle of forward and reverse. i can pull it and it;s in 1 gear i push it seems to stay in a gear[ the shift rod mechanism ] thanks

Quit moving the shifter or you could (or already have) ruin the cable completely. Pull the drive and you will see the problem.

the only time i move the shifter is when it;s out in front of me that's why i ask. just wants make sure everything is ok before reinstalling it thanks
