Installing motors,What is the biggest mistake people do?

I am getting ready to install three motors into two different boats. (when it get warmer)Whats is the most common overlooked mistake people do that bites them in the butt later on?

Trying to mix up the years were there changes with the 12" to 14" flywheel and one and two piece rear main seals

If they're new motors or reman, starting them up without proper pre-lubrication.

Or, starting them without proper cooling flow to the muffs.

Not following the Mercruiser maintenance manual.

Biggest mistake?
Not having a clue about the WHAT's , the WHY's , and the HOW's of what makes a marine engine and drive system work, and what each part does and why it does it.

mostly, simple failure of the installer to actually have a clue or the ability to read.

Attention to detail is critical. It's usually the small things that bite you in the keister. Not paying attention to the wear items that should be replaced while the engines are out.
